▷ Outcome

  • Designed systems to measure and track impact, integrated into user's workflow

  • Since Sept 2025, 50 projects completed, more than 150% in the same timeframe from previous version

  • 800 hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars saved.

▷ The Challenges

The predecessor to Flockwork, called Playground, exposed several shortcomings that informed the redesign. Discovery revealed major issues: organisations couldn’t remove posts after filling roles; volunteers got little feedback about progress; candidate quality was inconsistent; and applicants often had no idea where they stood. There was no incentive to create accounts or track hours, so data on impact and volunteer engagement was almost nonexistent. These gaps undermined trust and made matching inefficient.

▷ The Solution

I designed a five‑step request form that breaks the posting process into manageable stages—title, deadline, remote status, time commitment and required skills—ensuring comprehensive details for better matches and a mandatory closing date so posts don’t linger. On the volunteer side I built a browsing interface with filters for category, length and urgency , helping users quickly find suitable roles and discouraging scattershot applications. Throughout the platform, I tied every action to an account, encouraging sign‑ups and enabling progress tracking.

I created an email/web experience for both job poster and volunteer that dynamically requested feedback on project status, including hours, and fed that back to Flockwork admins, to keep them appraised on job status and quality.

▷ The Outcome

The new design gives organisations control over their listings and provides volunteers with clear search tools and status updates. By capturing detailed data and requiring accounts, Flockwork can now measure impact and report results— since Sept 2025, over 50 projects completed, nearly 500 hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars saved.
